Do Mutts live longer than Pure Breeds?

Some dog breeds live longer than others, but do mutts live longer than pure breeds?

What do you think? Is it true or false?

The Answer is: TRUE

Mutts do live longer than pure breeds. The reason behind this is that pure breeds are often bred to have specific physical feature, like a flat snout or a curled tail. That means not only were those physical features bred for multiple generations, but also genetic illnesses were passed down.

Crossbreeding with another dog breed mostly prevents the inheritance of pre-existing genetic diseases, resulting in longer, healthier lives among mutts.

On average, mixed-breeds live around 14 years, while most purebreds only live, on average, 10 years.

While overall it is true that mutts live longer than purebreds, there are always exceptions to the rule. For example, small dogs tend to live longer than big dogs. And while the Chihuahua is a purebred, the breed is among the longest-living dogs, exceeding a lifespan of 17 years.

However, genetics is not the only influence on the lifespan of a dog. Dogs that have been spayed or neutered typically enjoy longer lifespans compared to those that haven't undergone the procedure. This is because spaying and neutering help reduce the risk of cancer.
